My Heart Aches for Those who Gave Everything

You know, when the Senate refused to convict Trump after his impeachment for provoking an insurrection, we were told we’d have to beat him at the ballot box.

And when the Supreme Court refused to have him removed from the ballots after he violated the 14th Amendment, we were told we’d have to beat him at the ballot box.

And when the various prosecutions of Trump were slow-walked by the courts, we were told we’d have to beat him at the ballot box.

And when the Supreme Court decided Trump could not be prosecuted for any official acts, we were told we’d have to beat him at the ballot box.

And boy did we try to beat him at the ballot box. My friends and allies threw their heart and soul into this, so that this shitweasel would never get his hands on the levers of power again.

People made calls and wrote postcards and gave money, and participated in “ballot curing” and gave more money and some actually traveled down to swing states to canvas. People did every bloody thing they could.

And yet, here we are.

Trump is the beast that cannot be killed.

My heart aches for my friends and allies who gave their heart and soul to this and who are now left bereft because . . . of the price of eggs?

Spoiler-alert: the President has no control over the price of eggs.

There were so many opportunities to keep this guy from returning to the White House, but all of them were missed, either intentionally or through neglect. (Merrick Garland, you clearly did not see the urgency of the matter.) In the United States we can never again say that “no one is above the law.” Because clearly, clearly, clearly, Donald Trump is above the law. And now this diapered douchebag gets another chance to destroy the country (and maybe the Western alliance) since he didn’t get it done the first time around.

About a1skeptic

A disturbed citizen and skeptic. I should stop reading the newspaper. Or watching TV. I should turn off NPR and disconnect from the Internet. We’d all be better off.
