On Year Without God Turned a Pastor Around

Today I came across an interesting little story about former Seventh-Day Adventist pastor Ryan Bell, who the beginning of 2014, made the highly unusual New Year’s resolution to “live for one year without God.” Apparently it turned him into an atheist. More or less. He was profiled at the beginning of the year by National Public Radio, and now they’ve checked in with him again at the end of the year.

Bell informs us that one of his biggest lessons from the year is “that people very much value certainty and knowing and are uncomfortable saying that they don’t know.” He goes on to say that “I think before I wanted a closer relationship to God and today I just want a closer relationship with reality.”

About a1skeptic

A disturbed citizen and skeptic. I should stop reading the newspaper. Or watching TV. I should turn off NPR and disconnect from the Internet. We’d all be better off.
