There were two similar articles that were published recently, one by Andy Borowitz and one by the Onion, and they were both heading in the same direction: the Borowitz article was entitled “Many in Nation Tired of Explaining Things to Idiots,” and the Onion article was entitled “The Nation’s Experts Give Up.”
And I don’t know about you, but I definitely feel that way some times.
I mean, my blog, this blog, is obviously an attempt to explain some things, to draw together connections that maybe the reader hasn’t made yet. And my readers, I’m happy to say, are clearly not idiots.
But there are so many idiots out there, and there seems to be so little one can do to dent their arcane and ass-backwards belief systems with actual facts.
- Like the idiots who really don’t believe that global warming is real.
- Or those who literally believe that the Earth is only 6000 years old. (I’m looking at you, Ben Carson.)
- Or those who literally believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God when it is full of the most obvious and unresolvable contradictions.
- Or those who can’t understand that a corporation is not actually a person.
- Or those who can’t understand that extreme income bifurcation is not actually good for the economy.
- Or those who think that President Obama is a Muslim and was actually born in Kenya.
The list goes on and on, and it’s too long to replicate here. Enough said.
The title got my attention! And i am sooooo tired of repeating myself!!!
Lol. We have actually have discussed most of your points with our children and they just can’t understand how people can believe these things. If a 12 year-old can understand the science and logic you think an adult would. (shaking my head).
My 14 year old is better schooled than most of the talking heads.
