Politico ran a piece yesterday that a Quinnipiac University poll had concluded that Fox News was “the most trusted news in the United States.”   If that’s true, then there really is no hope for us as a nation.

Fox News is the least trustworthy news source ever invented. They are so transparently partisan that they’ve essentially become the public relations arm for the Republican party. Jane Curtin said it best on the SNL 40th anniversary special when she said, “I used to be the only pretty blonde woman reading the fake news. Now there’s a whole network devoted to that.”

Now, to be fair, the poll indicates that 58% of Republicans and only 3% of Democrats trust Fox news the most. This is in keeping with Fox being the PR arm of the Republican party, although there is a difference between RELATING to the your news source and TRUSTING it. I RELATE to Jon Stewart, but I’m not expecting him to deliver non-partisan information.

But aside from this being a sad day for the country as a whole, it’s a really sad day for network news. For ABC, CBS and NBC. What happened to the days of Walter Cronkite, when he was the most trusted man in America? There are still more people watching the network news than watch Fox news. The network news sources are in the teens — around 14 to 15% for Democrats — and in single digits — about 5% to 7% for Republicans — as the most trusted news source. Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
